sunny days and mondays

the sun was warm enough today that I took my coat off. the trails are shit-streaked slush and cars politely dodge brutal potholes as I walk on the half-assed sidewalks. I LOVE it. break-up has always been my favorite time of year- it signifies the start of better things. it's light til 10pm. eaves drip. people smile a lot.

-the long-abandoned Chinese restaurant on 5th and A. like most, if not all, of the vacant buildings in this town, nothing has really been done with it... in decades. weirdly, that seems to include vandalism. there are even Xmas lights in the trees that no one's thought to steal. i guess anchorage was always rather like this; I used to leave my car window down when I lived in mountain view and nothing ever happened. I'd walk to work when I did graveyard shifts in midtown. a lot of people don't lock their doors. is it because people are just more trusting and less likely to fuck with each other? or is it the assumption that everyone here has guns? in any event, it's rather eerie.
-I took this for the "mr iPhone" sign, but the building next to it is fucking awesome too.
